   League Guidelines Minimize

SETTING UP MATCHES
  1. Members may issue challenges to any other members in their league.
  2. Players must make every effort to make and accept proper challenges both upward and downward.
  3. If a challenge cannot be agreed upon with a particular player, try someone else.

LEAGUE PLAY
  1. The time and day for a match must be mutually agreeable.
  2. The challenger shall provide new balls for the match and reserve the court.
  3. Scoring should be conventional: 2 out of 3 sets, regular scoring with a 12 point tie breaker used at 6 games all. The League Administrator may decide to use "no-ad" scoring. The League Administrator may also require that a third set be replaced by a 12 point tie-breaker. Scoring for the final set in this instance will be recorded as a regular set. In other words, a game per tie-break point. The League Administrator will notify all members as to the scoring method at the beginning of the season.
  4. If a match is interrupted for any reason, it may be continued to completion at another time by agreement of both players. Or the player leading the match at the point of interruption can be considered the winner. A match is only valid if at least one set has been completed. Both players must agree to the settlement. If no settlement can be made, the match must be completed or replayed at a later date -- otherwise no result can be posted.
  5. When a match is won as a result of one player retiring, the score shall be reported as it stands at the time of retirement. For point computation, sufficient games will be added to the incomplete set to complete the match.
  6. Unless otherwise stated, all competition will comply with USTA playing rules.

AFTER THE MATCH
  1. The winner should enter the match results on the Tennis Engine web site from his personal member page. The match results and subsequent new rankings will be posted immediately.
  2. Otherwise the score must be emailed, faxed or phoned-in to the League Administrator. A drop-off point may be coordinated by the League Administrator for score sheet collection and posting by the Administrator.
  3. The League Administrator will make every effort to post results from score sheets on a timely basis.

SPORTSMANSHIP

There are very few restrictions for league play. However we recommend that participants not play the same opponent in back-to-back matches. While this recommendation cannot easily be enforced, it is considered contrary to the spirit of league participation to play exclusively with one or two other participants. Obviously, any system can be abused if the participants attempt to "beat the system." The main goal here is to have a good time and reward personal accomplishment with some small public recognition. So let's have fun.

   2009 Bylaws Update Minimize

All leagues with exception of the Hall of Fame League start after publishing the spring member newsletter; usually sent by the end of April, and end on October 15th.

The Hall of Fame league started in 2008 is a perpetual league (there is no end of tennis season unless we nuke the planet) available at any time to its players.

   Practical Observations Minimize
  • If you lost your match, hold your horses in sharing this info with the World.

It's the match winning party who is responsible for posting the results to the engine, so let them do their job and it's not your problem if they did not, isn't it?
